Biography

David Bendix Nielsen (b. 1993) is a Danish-Hungarian organist based in Copenhagen. He is educated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, where he studied with Bine Bryndorf, Hans Fagius, and Wolfgang Zerer. He received his Master’s degree in church music in 2017 and debuted as a concert organist in 2019. David is currently the organist at St. Mark’s Church in Copenhagen and teaches at the Church Music School of Zealand. He has previously held assistant organist positions at Roskilde Cathedral and Holmens Church.


David is an active recitalist and has performed at renowned venues such as St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey in London, Basilique Sainte-Clotilde in Paris, Basel Münster, as well as at festivals in Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary. He also regularly collaborates with ensembles including the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Phil, and Theatre of Voices.


David has received several awards and grants for his work, most notably the Léonie Sonning Talent Prize (2018) and the Young Artistic Elite grant from the Danish Arts Foundation (2022–2023). His debut solo album Bach & Pärt was released in 2022 by the British label Orchid Classics.


He is the artistic director of the concert series OrganDreams – a series of visual organ concerts – and of the ensemble Arte Divine. With a strong interest in cross-artistic formats, he has participated in projects such as the dance performance Detached from Others (Convoi Exceptionnel), the light installation The Wave (Vertigo), and the upcoming exhibition Copenhagen–Berlin: Portal to the World at Nikolaj Kunsthal with artist Alexander Tillegreen.
